What surface treatment methods can be used to improve the prevention of corrosion in fasteners?

Fasteners are the most common components in mechanical equipment and play a crucial role. However, corrosion is the most common form of damage to fasteners during use. In order to prevent corrosion during use, we will perform surface treatment on fasteners after production. So, what surface treatment methods can improve fasteners to prevent corrosion? There are four main surface treatment methods to prevent corrosion of fasteners, and we can choose the most suitable method according to specific needs:

Our fastener products include: internal locking wire drawing rivets, external locking wire drawing rivets, seahorse rivets, double drum rivets, single drum rivets, lantern rivets, open type rivets, flower rivets, groove core pulling rivets, closed type rivets, rivet nuts, pneumatic riveting guns and related fasteners.

1、 Electroplating

Electroplating standard parts involves placing them in a metal solution and then applying an electric current to cover the surface of the standard parts with a layer of metal. There are many effects on this layer of metal, for example, we can choose different coating metals based on their different effects. If we want to prevent rust on the standard parts, we can electroplate zinc on the surface of the standard parts.

2、 Mechanical plating

Mechanical plating on standard parts is to allow metal particles to perform cold welding on the standard parts, ensuring some of the surface effects of the standard parts. Mechanical plating and electroplating are basically similar, but the methods we use are different, and the results can be said to be the same.

3、 Heat treatment

For standard parts, heat treatment is required on the surface. Some standard parts, such as drill tail screws, require a relatively hard surface, so drill tail screws can be heat treated to ensure that they have sufficient hardness. This is the reason for conducting heat treatment.

4、 Surface passivation

For the surface passivation of standard parts, passivation has two main functions: one is to enhance the hardness of the standard parts, and the other is to greatly reduce the oxidation effect of the standard parts. When conducting surface treatment processes for fasteners, we can choose the most suitable method based on specific circumstances and requirements. This way, fasteners can play a better role during use.
